    Typical Liner Replacement Process

After selecting your liner pattern and making a deposit, the liner will be ordered. This process can take a few weeks, and is based on current conditions with suppliers and is subject to change.  Once the liner is ready, you will be added to the schedule for installation.  Typically this is done within a week of the liner being ready.

On the first day of work, a commercial pump will rapidly drain your pool.  The old liner is cut out and rolled into sections for easy removal.  Sand bottoms are hand-troweled for a smooth finish.  Hard bottom pools are cleaned and inspected for cracks, holes, or other damage.  If there is damage, additional work for additional costs may be required to properly install the new liner.

Unfortunately we can’t anticipate these issues ahead of time and need to remove the old liner to determine if any additional work is needed.  Another unforeseen issue is groundwater.  Customers closer to the water might experience groundwater.

The good news is that we have the best installers on Long Island, so we are equipped to handle even the most challenging circumstances.  When the old liner is removed, there can also be issues with the walls of the pool structure itself.

Walls can be re-foamed for an additional cost, but oftentimes we can leave it as it is.  We don’t want to do any work other than what is needed to properly install the new liner.

After the empty pool is prepped, the new liner is installed with a large commercial vacuum running under the liner while water is filling the pool.  This ensures a tight installation with no wrinkles.

Next, we install new gaskets for the skimmers, lights, returns, and main drains to ensure a proper seal.  Once the liner is secured into the track around the pool, we add bead-lock in strategic locations to keep the liner in its track.  We can bead lock the entire perimeter for an additional cost.

The pool will be partially filled and then the installers will come back to cut out the skimmers, returns, lights and other fittings.  At this point the pool is ready to be filled the rest of the way, to the middle of the skimmers.

We typically like to have one of our technicians stop by when the pool is full to make sure there are no leaks at the filter site and to add any additional chemicals that might be needed.

For example, if the hose water has high iron levels, it's important to use a chemical to remove the metals before adding chlorine or the water will turn brown.  Assuming everything is running smoothly, you can balance the chemicals like you normally would and enjoy your new liner.

What Brand Equipment Should I Buy?

If you have owned a pool before, you know that pool equipment is not cheap.  If something looks too good to be true from a price point, it probably is.  Sub par equipment needs to be fixed and replaced far more often than the leading pool manufacturers.

Better quality equipment will not only last longer, but can also drive down energy costs.

A variable speed pump could end up saving you hundreds of dollars each season on your energy bill.  Some energy companies offer rebates for converting to energy efficient pumps and heaters, so be sure to look into that before reaching out for an estimate.

We are happy to provide you with a free estimate for the specific equipment to meet your energy company’s requirements for a rebate.

The Three Cousins has accounts with every major supplier on Long Island to provide our customers with access to all major pool product manufacturers.  Hayward, Pentair, Jandy, Raypak, and Jacuzzi are some of the many brands we are very familiar with.

When it comes to the best value for your money, Hayward is always at the forefront.
